Process washing and hygienic requirements
How CIP/SIP modes affect the glass, gaskets and fitting construction.
CIP/SIP is regular thermal cycles and aggressive media: alkali, acid, steam. For the sight fitting it is a test of the pack materials and the construction.
Washing influences the choice of gaskets, glass and body version; material documents are often required separately.
Typical washing conditions
- cycles: alkali → rinse → acid → rinse;
- temperature peaks during steaming;
- short-time but regular exposures;
- the requirement of no dead zones.
Visibility during washing
The operator benefits from seeing washing flow pulsations and draining. The window must stay transparent in detergent foam — sometimes a second window above the foam level is enough.
Limits
- gasket resistance to the sequence of media (not to each one separately);
- thermal cycles as a separate ageing factor;
- hygienic construction: no crevices or pockets.
Questions for the vessel designer
- which sequence and concentrations of washing agents are used?
- which temperatures and cycle durations?
- which material documents are required?
Which classes to consider
Fittings with confirmed washing suitability: circular DIN 28120/28121 in hygienic versions; pack materials follow the washing cycle.
